- Foster growth through feedback from direct observation
- Determine whether learner can be entrusted with PGY1 practice through observations in authentic work environments
- NOT fine-grained differentiation of excellent vs even more excellent: Too many confounders, fosters performance mindset rather than growth mindset
- NOT failure by one observation: holistic review of longitudinal data points and trajectory
